SPAN301: Composition & Oral Practice
Continues to build proficiency as defined by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Content-based instruction develops communicative language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through readings and discussions of authentic Hispanic cultural and literary texts. For students with two or more years of Spanish or an intermediate level of Spanish language proficiency.
During the fall semester of 2016, I took one of my most challenging courses, Span301 Oral and Composition that helped me to fulfill MLO 1 & 2. The class was divided into groups and we were asked to meet and work as a group to complete extensive book work. I was also asked to complete a couple of essays, a debate, and a final oral group presentation. The essays were writing in various topics based on different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, etc. The compositions helped us to showcase our use of grammar and extensive vocabulary. The class debate was on a controversial topic. This debate helped me to express my thoughts to the rest of the class using good vocabulary and good communication skills.
The final for this course consisted of writing a research paper and conduct an oral presentation on the same element of a Spanish Speaking country. My group chose to research three areas of Mexico: history, literature, and food. I decided to focus on the literature aspect of the project since I literature is my passion. The research required a minimum of six cited sources; the information was to be presented in a coherent and interesting way. I have attached our Power Point Presentation and my group’s research.
