La Literatura Mexicana was my first literature course taken at CSUMB and fulfills MLO 1 & 3. This course was my first literature course at CSUMB. I was very excited and anxious to take this class because Spanish literature is my passion. During this course we read most of the pillars of Mexican literature. We were asked to read a total of seven novels and some short stories. Even though the class was very rigorous in terms of time we had to read each novel, I really enjoyed it because I love to read Spanish literature. After every reading assignment we had enjoyable and deep class discussions to understand the novels. Some stories featured magical realism leaving room for interpretation.
Besides the reading and the discussion of the novels this class helped me with my writing skills. After every novel we were asked to write a four page analytical essay and we completed a short quiz. In class we got in groups and after analyzing the novel we shared with the class our analysis. During the presentations we would explore different perspectives of the symbolism and themes depicted within the literary works. We have read very unique novels: Los de Abajo, Pedro Páramo, El Zarco, La Tumba, Como agua para chocolate and El Periquillo Sarniento. I really enjoyed this class.
